Step 2: Prepare to Sell

There are steps you can take to increase the appeal of your property and to create a lasting impact on potential buyers. As your agent, we will walk through your property and offer suggestions, but here are a few general thoughts to consider when listing your property for sale.

1. Curb Appeal

Keeping your landscape and home exterior pristine will create an immediate impact on passers-by and potential buyers.

2. Property Repairs

Simple steps such as window repairs, polishing doorknobs, or a fresh coat of paint in the most frequently used rooms can instantly brighten up the property. Also, finish any home improvement projects you have already started.

3. Cleanliness and Staging

Keep your property uncluttered, odor free, and well lit from top to bottom. Pay attention to details: put away the kitty litter, place a vase of fresh flowers near the entryway, or have your carpets cleaned. Reducing clutter is key. Limit the number of items on shelves and tables, and consider removing political or religious items that could be off-putting to others.

4. Fix Pet Issues

We love our pets, and you love yours. Not everyone loves pets in the home, though, and some people are allergic to pet dander. So, whether it is repairing chewed shoe molding, treating stains on the carpet, or vacuuming a few more times to collect all of the pet hair on your rug, do what is necessary to reach the pet-free population.
